Planning permission has been granted for this replacement dwelling on the outskirts of Bath. The new, single-storey home is decidedly contemporary in its conception, and we are always pleased when a local authority appreciates the benefits that carefully-considered, contemporary design can bring to Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Now to work up the Technical Design package so we can get this home built!

After both winning local LABC Awards, Hayesbrow has joined Carisbrooke on the shortlist for the LABC Southwest Awards for 2018. It sits in the 'Best Extension or Alteration' category alongside Carisbrooke in the 'Best New Home category'.
We like to think our commitment to quality design is worth it at any scale of project - it therefore means a lot that Hayesbrow, an extension and refurbishment project, has received recognition alongside our new house projects such as Carisbrooke. Fingers crossed for the awards night in July!

Overall it remodels the existing house to create a sustainable, contemporary home suited to 21st Century living, all within the historic city of Bath.

Carisbrooke has been a joy to design. Sitting on the edge of the breathtakingly beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal just on the fringes of Bath, this brand new 365sqm house is an excellent example of great contemporary architecture that works hard in a sustainable way - something that every architect at CaSA is passionate about.

You can 'hardly see the wood for the trees', and rightly so... never has an agricultural storage building had to be so discrete and sit so lightly on the ground. It's not often you have to resort to an air spade to excavate a plot.
Find out here why we felt it merits an award...

CaSA’s stunning NPPF 55 passive house project, Oaklands, has opted for using a Batimet window system, making The Lighthouse the first residential project in the UK to use this high-quality wood-aluminium window system made and designed in Germany.
These frames offer excellent passive house credentials together with a flexible design that can be incorporated effectively into this elegant and minimal architecture. Not all passive house windows can offer this at such a competitive price. We look forward to seeing the results in the months to come.

A new 4-part series began last week on BBC2 and is definitely worth a watch. ‘The World's Most Extraordinary Homes’ is a chance to take a rare look inside some truly extraordinary homes built in mountain, forest, coast and underground locations around the world.
Just finding out how they did it is worth tuning in for. It’s not every day you need to use a helicopter to build a house.

Four finalists have been announced for the recent live competition being run by Colander Associates Ltd. We entered the competition (yes the cartoon was part of it) because the brief seemed like such a worthwhile one - to design a light, spacious and barrier-free home for the Taussig family and their two children, Theo and Oskar, who both suffer from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
We look forward to watching the design unfold in the months to come and wish everyone the very best of luck in coming up with “a magical place with a wonderful garden that will nurture the boys' hearts and spirits in spite of their life-limiting disease”.

This month the CaSA team made time to visit The Flint House and Windmill Hill on the Rothschild’s family estate at Waddesdon Manor, in Buckinghamshire.
The Flint House, designed by architect Charlotte Skene Catling, is famed for winning the RIBA House of the Year award 2015. To get a real flavour for this magical and truly unique piece of architecture from your armchair, try reading The Guardian’s article from July 2015.
The Hundred pub was pretty exceptional too – delicious food, tasteful surroundings and of course fabulous company.
An inspiring day all round.
